How it works

The sun's position comes from the method the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) publishes, the same one Cutvey Meter runs. Golden hour is the sun between 6° above the horizon and 4° below; blue hour, between 4° and 8° below. Sunrise and sunset are the moments the top of the sun crosses a flat horizon, and the bearings say where on the horizon that happens.

Type a city from the list, or paste coordinates from a map. The times are on that place's own clock. This page never asks where you are, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Hills, buildings and a valley floor end the direct sun before the sunset time, sometimes by half an hour, so look at the real horizon on the scout. Shooting in one of 40 big production cities? Golden hour by city has a page for each, with the week ahead and the year, and blue hour by city has the twilight on its own.
